How day counts work
The difference is end midnight minus start midnight, in whole days. Weekdays skip Saturday and Sunday. The count does not include the start date and does include the end date when the times are midnight-to-midnight — the same way many “days until” widgets work. If you need inclusive hotel nights, add 1 or use nights = days.
Worked example
From Monday 2 March 2026 to Monday 9 March 2026 is 7 days. Weekdays in that span are 5. A hotel stay those two Mondays is often 7 nights only if you leave the following Monday; check-out the next Monday morning is 7 nights, not 8.
Statutory holidays still count as weekdays here. Court and insurance deadlines sometimes mean “business days excluding holidays.” Confirm with the office that set the date.

Does this include the first day?
The raw difference between two calendar dates does not count the start day. A Monday to the next Monday is 7 days.
What about holidays?
Holidays still count as weekdays if they fall Monday–Friday.
